Are you a Roadrunner? There’s an app for that, too.
A new app for MSU Denver students is available for free download on iPhones, iPads and Android devices.
Users of the app — named MSU Denver Connection — can access the status of their college application, view holds, check class schedules, see upcoming athletic events and also find RTD bus schedules.
“It is very easy for students to access because you use the same username and password as you use to log into the banner system,” said Bill Bickerton, director of IT databases.
This was the first project of a concerted effort to interact more with students who utilize smart phones and social networking, Bickerton said.
Aware of the current state of converging media, MSU Denver President Stephen Jordan initiated an effort to use emerging media more efficiently by creating a new media team headed by Evan Tynan. The first project for Tynan’s team was to create an application for smart phones, and kiosks that would help Metro students access vital information quickly.
“We are communicating with students to see how we can improve the app, how to help faculty use it and keep alumni engaged using the app,” Tynan, said. “We launched the first version in May and added a survey online to get feedback from students.”
Students and faculty will be the driving force for content and changes to the app. Metro Student Media and other departments should soon have additional tabs added to the application, Tynan said.
“If the department or group has strong enough material, we will review it and add a button, like athletics, that students could access,” Tynan said.
However, there are some things that cannot be done on the app.
“It would be cool to be able to register for next semester’s classes on your phone, or maybe search for classes at least,” said MSU Denver student Tiffany Martinez.
Tynan’s new media team is trying to get reactions from students on campus by getting students to fill out the online survey about the app and rewarding them with free gifts like Starbucks gift cards.
The red kiosks around campus, like the one in the new Student Success building, give students a chance to use the app before downloading it.
For feedback please visit the www.mscd.edu/tehcnology/appsurvey/ to fill out the survey for the app.
