Do you participate in actives on campus, and what factors into your
participation?
Lindsey Julen, UCD
“[It’s] my schedule: Internship, work, school. I don’t have time to hang around, unless I’m doing it for my classes. I’d say the most on-campus hanging out I do is just in-between classes with classmates.”
Taylor Mathiebe, Metro
“I used to work full time and go to school full time, but I just quit [my job] this semester because I am about to graduate; that was pretty much my reasoning for not doing much around here. These days I just kind of peruse around campus for hours.”
Andrew Parks, Metro
“I’m still trying to work out my schedule to the point where I can get involved, but I definitely look for chances when I can. I’ve gone to some of the [events] at the Turner Hall before. I saw Saul Williams last year. To have names like that come here, I think, is pretty cool. I wish there was more of a chance to get involved. Being a commuter you really have to join clubs and get involved those first couple of weeks…in order to make it what you want.”
Ezra Riggs, UCD
“I’ve gone to a few different speeches at the Tivoli. I saw [Obama] speak, I saw Alberto Gonzales speak…I feel that being a commuter school, it attracts a lot more of the working crowd…I don’t think there’s as much of -not that there’s anything wrong with it – (kids) who just get sent here by their parents, who have the money to hang out and do whatever. I think that’s a big part of it; Most people I know here have a job, sometimes more than one.”
Troy Lambert, UCD
“I used to play soccer but we don’t have a soccer team for UCD so I can’t play. I live downtown so I really have no excuse [for not participating]. I walk to campus. Honestly, the only thing I do is is go to class then go to the gym.”
